Bike Frame JIG

In order to make these builds a bike frame jig is quite useful. Unfortunately they are quite expensive. This build aimed at making a jig that was cost effective and easy to use. Eventually a second sturdier version was created for a production run.

Design

Slots where needed in order to adjust for different lengths and angles, also custom made tapered stock was needed to hold the bottom bracket in place. Threaded rod was used in order to vary the position of the tapered stock and the spacing of the dropouts.

Material

The main structure of the bike frame jig was constructed out of 6061 aluminum, which was not heat threaded. The tapered stock was constructed out of tool steel. All the threaded rod is made of mild steel. The second iteration of the bike frame jig was made out of HSS.

Manufacturing

The  most challenging part of this process was to hold the bars for the jig in place in order to make sure it was straight (To jig the jig).
