GABIKE
GABIKE
I was asked by a client to make an ultra light and stiff track bike frame. It was also requested to be custom fit to his stature since conventional sizes did not fight him comfortably. He requested that the bike frame have an aero TT feel and be constructed out of aluminum.
Design
This frame, although not challenging in design, took many sit downs in order to meet the clients requirements of size and geometry. The client requested a bike that was fast and stiff, but that could still absorb some of the shocks for city riding.
Material
This frame was constructed of 6061 aluminum, TIG welded and then heat treated to 6061-T6
Manufacturing
This was one of the first bikes to be built on the bike frame jig. Custom machining included the drop-outs (which were shaped by hand) and a headtube, which was machined out of a solid block on a lathe.
